Roman Fada, also known as Phillip Appiah Kubi, had his sights set on running as the presidential candidate for the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) in the 2024 Ghanaian elections. However, his ambitions have been halted, as the Electoral Commission disqualified him over issues with his nomination paperwork.
According to a report by 3news, the Electoral Commission identified numerous errors and illegalities on Roman Fada's nomination forms. TV3’s Crosby Annan reported that the Commission, standing firm in its decision, confirmed it would not alter the ballot positions.
This decision came to light after the GFP formally submitted a letter to the Commission on November 4, 2024, naming Roman Fada as their new candidate following the passing of the party’s founder, Akua Donkor, who had initially designated Fada as her running mate.
Akua Donkor passed away on October 28, 2024, at Accra’s Ridge Hospital. As a result of the disqualification, the GFP's position on the ballot remains uncertain as the Commission stated that votes for Akua Donkor will be annulled. This marks a significant setback for the GFP and raises questions about the party’s next steps ahead of the 2024 elections.
