In a heartbreaking turn of events, authorities have arrested a suspect linked to the violent murder of Lilian Achieng Aluko, a beloved journalist and presenter with Nairobi’s Radio 44. Her body was tragically discovered in Kahawa West on November 1, 2024, leaving her family, friends, and colleagues devastated.
Lilian, just 33 years old, had informed her family that she would be staying at her boyfriend's home on the night she went missing. Her lifeless body was later found at that location, showing signs of severe injuries on her face and a stab wound in her back.
Following intensive investigations, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) worked with local authorities in Meru County to locate and apprehend the prime suspect. The individual, believed to be her boyfriend, was captured in Tharaka Nithi County’s Kaanwa area after being on the run since November 1.
The arrest has brought a glimmer of hope for justice, as the Kenyan public, and especially those in media circles, continue to mourn Lilian’s loss. This tragedy has underscored the urgent need for protecting journalists and ensuring justice for those who face violence in the line of duty.
