Ralph St. Williams, a prominent member of the Fix the Country movement, was taken into custody at Kotoka International Airport while en route to Kumasi for a scheduled protest. Oliver Barker-Vormawor, convener of the movement, broke the news on social media, linking the arrest to Williams' participation in the "Enough is Enough" demonstration organized by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) .
The "Enough is Enough" protest aimed to highlight the Electoral Commission's alleged mismanagement, with Williams symbolically swimming in the National Cathedral pit, a site costing Ghana 58 million cedis. A viral video shows Williams tearing down posters at the Cathedral project site, expressing outrage over public fund misuse.
This arrest is the latest development in the Fix the Country movement's push for accountability and better governance in Ghana. The movement, which began as a social media campaign, has gained momentum since 2021, with youths demanding improved socio-economic conditions, employment opportunities, and an end to corruption .
Key Issues Fueling the Fix the Country Movement:
Economic Mismanagement:_ Ghana's economic struggles, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, have led to increased prices and taxes.
Corruption:The movement demands accountability for alleged corruption, including the National Cathedral project.
Youth Unemployment: Fix the country advocates for job creation and better opportunities for Ghana's youth.
As tensions rise, the movement's leaders and supporters continue to push for change despite arrests and challenges. Will this latest development deter the Fix the Country movement, or will it fuel further action?
