In a surprising move, former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has announced his departure from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to focus on humanitarian work. Gyan, Ghana's record goalscorer, revealed on social media that he feels his political affiliation has been unfair to the country's youth.
He has decided to step back from active politics and dedicate himself to empowering Ghanaian youth through the Asamoah Gyan Foundation.
This comes after Gyan was recently named chairman of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's Youth and Sports Manifesto sub-committee and participated in campaign events. However, Gyan now wishes to remain neutral, wishing all political parties a peaceful election and vowing to continue his humanitarian work without political ties.
