The recent passing of Akua Donkor, flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), has sparked widespread speculation about potential changes to the ballot positions of Ghana's presidential candidates. Many Ghanaians, particularly social media users, are wondering if her departure will lead to last-minute adjustments. However, the Electoral Commission (EC) has already begun printing ballot papers, rendering any changes logistically challenging and expensive .
This speculation gained momentum after Bernard Antwi Boasiako, aka Chairman Wontumi, threatened to move John Mahama from the 8th position to either 6 or 7, supposedly to demonstrate his influence . Wontumi's comments were likely driven by Rev. Isaac-Owusu Bempah's endorsement of Mahama, which sparked controversy within the NPP .
Despite these developments, the EC's prior confirmation that printing has commenced ensures that all candidates will retain their assigned slots. This clarity should alleviate concerns about potential ballot position shifts.
